The Power of Consistency

I mentioned last week on Twitter that I’ve been working with a career coach for over a year. For the past 8 weeks I’ve been extremal focused on consistency and the importance of it. As an adult who suffers from ADHD, consistence can be hard. Before I fully complete a project I’m often off to the next thing. The result is somewhat depressing because I end up being pretty good at a lot of things but rarely achieve excellence.
This lack of consistency permeates so much of my life, from exercise to diet to laundry and cleaning… I am consistent for a while, and then I focus on something else, and the area of my life I’d been so focused on starts to slide.
I’ve only been trading this new way (taking profits and walking away) for two months now, but the results are pretty undeniable. I’ve never achieved this large of a percentage growth in such a short amount of time. I made a 50% increase on my account. Now, to be totally honest… I turned 5k into 7.5k, so the dollar amount isn’t hugely impressive. If you’ve followed me for a while you know that there are plenty of times I’ve made 2.5k in a day… and there was even the infamous 14k day. These were fun and exciting, but the lack of consistency was painful. Plus, the overall trajectory of my account was generally pointed downward. 2.5k days are worthless if you can’t keep the money, and they’re even more worthless if your next day is a -3.5k day.
I was recently talking to a friend about this, and he pointed out that two months of consistence is a very small sample size, and he’s not wrong. There are all kinds of ways for me to fall off the wagon and screw things up… but I’d rather have faith that I can at least use this as a positive example of the powerful effects of consistency and compounding.
I’m actually so impressed with the results that I want to try to compound gains in the rest of my life as well. I want to prioritize making my bed, doing a load of laundry a day, and putting my shoes back in the closet instead of leaving them under the table. I’m not exactly sure what the results of these small changes will be, but I’m excited to share them with you all.

It feels prudent for me to say that I’m not a financial advisor, I have no real training, and I am not YET a long term profitable trader. None of this is financial advice by any means. They are just thoughts and musings from a girl who’s out there every day in the trenches with you. Read at your own risk.
